Why wrap headers?(Sorry about V8 comment Stephen, Just playing around):D

In what way does wrapping headers help besides keeping heat out of the engine bay?

It's not so much that it lowers temperature on the outside of the wrapped part(which is a side benefit) as much as it keeps heat inside. Since heat and velocity are directly related, maintaining the heat of the exhaust gases, maintains thier velocity. Thus the escaping gases move away from the exhaust port quicker and create a greater scavenging effect. Scavenging is very important because it draws exhaust gases from the cylinder, which in turn draws in the intake charge. The more efficiently you scavenge during the exhaust stroke the more room you create for a fresh intake charge and the faster that charge is drawn into the cylinder.
