it's kind of dangerous to play with fire....but here goes: first get yourself one of those mini car fire extinguisers(good investment for any motorist actually)
somehow install a nozzle within the tailpipe tips, drill holes fabricate some pipes brake line might work. then get somthing like a windshield washer pump and some fuel hoses(it might be a good idea to find a pump thats actually fuel rated)dip the hoses into a bottle of acetone nail polish remover(very flamable)really some kind of externally mounted tank should be used(not the gas tank) wire up the pumps with swithes on your dash,as for ignition....well your on your own there, try making a spark gap where the fuel mist is injected into the tip and find somthing that will get voltage to it a barbeque igniter might work if a 6' length of wire can conduct that small amount of current.
so you would have to turn on the pumps then hit the igniter, if you can figure out a way to make that a fully automatic function, you could then use a tach with a shift light, use the voltage from the shift light to activate the flame circuits(if your into mess'n with electronics). you should only use such a thing at WOT to help keep flames away from your car. it may take some tweaking to get it perfect, hence the fire extinguisher.

actualy the way i heard the old time hot rodders doing it was to set up the car to run rich......really really rich so there was more gas in the exaust.....then hook up a spark plug in each of the exaust pipes, and have a switch inside the car to set off the plug

I think how the old timers did it was to rig a switch that cut the spark to some cylynders and diverted it to plugs in the pipes. that way you rev the motor and hit the switch and it spews gas right out the tail pipes for the really big (read 5-10ft) flames. if you really want to go trick do this but hook the tail plugs up to and MSD or other cap discharge and the flames will never fail.!
a friend of mine once jokingly commented on my car
"oh, its one of those cars that propels itself by spewing gas directly out the tail pipes"

SSM frame con, Bilsteins
homemade ramair.

Actually...the way my Dad did it in his 69 RS/Z-28 was to use a small container of gas plumbed with a line to a bulb that he would squeeze and make the gas run into a line plumbed into his exhaust. He also had a switch that would let voltage go to a spark plug he screwed into a welded bung downstrwam from that line containing the gas. Squeeze the bulb, hit the switch, make the flames. Sounds kinda dangerous to me. I know one time, my plug wires got too hot (good-ole autozone wires...ugh) and were gettin holes in em and arcing all over the place under the hood. I was gettin pissed at the lack of power and HAMMERED the throttle.....I swear I looked up in my rearview mirror after the most MASSIVE explosion sound I've ever heard only to see a 6 foot flame exit the ******* of my IROC.....makes me shudder to imagine, but my friends all thought it was just the collest thing they'd ever seen. I now run Holley Anniahlator 9mm wires.

Well, this is what I have come up with after thinking about for a while. Screw a line into the shrieder (sp?) valve on the fuel rail, and then get a small NOS kit or at least parts from one. Put the soleniod somewhere in the line comming from the fuel rail, and wire up the switch. Then run the nozzle that is suppose to inject the NOS into your intake, and place it somewhere towards the back of your exhaust. About 6 inches down the pipe install a sparkplug, and then run a high voltage transformer that you can buy through just about any type of electronics catalog, or maybe rip one from a 12v flourescent light or something... dont know about the light thing tho.... then wire both the transformer and the solenoid to one switch. Should work. The nozzle will spray the gas as a mist, and the exhuast will force it through the spark plug. The only problem may be a lack of oxygen inside the pipes, so you may want to keep your air tube installed on your cat. Laterz...

A long time ago on CamaroZ28.com, in the f-body forum, or whatever that's called, someone posted a thread about flaming exhausts. I was told that with our electronic ignitions it wouldn't work, but who knows? search for it in that forum.

NO NO
be carefull!!!
if you do spray the gas into the pipes more than a foot or so before the end of your tail pipes -
make absolutely sure you have your air disconnected and there are no leaks in the system or you will end up igniting the gas in the pipes and --
this is very bad -- this will blow the pipes/ mufflers right off your car.
just make sure that you ignite the gas when it is a foot or less from the exit or like I said it could go boom!
a friend of mine said that he had this hapen once in a truck that died while he was going like 55 on the highway. the exhaust had a leak near the manifold and to get it started while it was coasting he tried to pump the gas and it was carburated. well the carb loaded the exhaust with fuel and next thing you know the engine comes back to life and he blew off the mufflers and scorched the underside of the truck in a giant fireball.
anyway - no air until the endof the pipe!

welp, my cousins old 78 grand prix shot fire out its single 2 1/2" tailpipe...but we shot fire by simply jetting it richer and revving it up. Most of the old timer's i've talked to said "Gotta have a spark plug, yada yada" as mentioned above....

-Performance Resource Chip
-700R4 (Rebuilt) Too much done to actually list
-K&N Airfilters
-Ported Plenum
-2.77 Gears (not much to brag about but eh, its there)
-MSD 8.5 mm plug wires
-Problems every other day with the car (probably not a mod, but to me it sure makes a difference)
