HELP ME PICK HEADERS!!!!!!!!!!
HELP ME PICK HEADERS!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I just got my car in June, and I am now starting to make more money again, and it's time to modify this thing. I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305 TBI. I'm not sure if I have dual cats or not, I've been told I do, but I've also heard that I don't. I just ordered a Dynomax cat-back for 1992 Camaro, so it will fit fine, but I'm confused for headers for this car. I have heard that Heddman makes good headers for cheap, and I don't have over 300 hp, so my car will be fine with the cheap ones. I'd end up haveing them jet-hot coated, but I don't know what kind I need. Can anyone help?
Well, when choosing my headers i took a few things into account,
Hp i make now
HP i will make down the road
Quality of the product i'm purchasing
In the end i narrowed it down to SLp 4 into 1's and the 1 3/4" hooker super comp long tubes. I want the Hooker's but im not too sure about clearance. I know that right now i'llbe sacrificing hp and torque do to the fact that i'm running off of a stock engine.. But i also know i'm stroking it.. so when i end up with a tricked out 383 putting out 400hp+
I decided i'd go with the best right from the start.

On The way, Mufflex 4". Slp 4 into 1 3/4" or Hooker Super Comp lt headers

Well, I'm planning on getting a 350 TPI in the future, but my engine has only 83,000 miles on it, and I've heard that these engines last forever. I'm not planning on having my car running 11 second quarter miles(would be nice) but all I'm planning on doing before it dies is get my headers, cat-back, new gears, intake, and a power chip. I don't think that I'd have to get the best headers just for those minor mods. Also, when should I buy the power chip?

No TBI car came with dual-cats, so you have a single cat. The SLP 1 5/8" headers are great for your car. They will work fine when you put in a TPI later down the road as well. You could also get the 1 3/4" headers now, but you'll hate it with your current engine until you put in the bigger engine.

SLP headers are great, but very expensive, I have the Edelbrock TES on my car and couldn't be happier.

I had a 305TBI earlier this year and installed SLP 1 5/8 units. Even though they were stainless I still had them coated. I was very happy with them then and more so now that the 305 has been replaced w/ ZZ4 & TPI. When the headers were done I also changed to a 3" cat and 3" cat-back. The sound was a little bit hollow with the 305, but all that changed with the ZZ4. It now has a nice mellow sound at low rpm but really wakes up above 3k. The SLP's are more expensive, but how many times are you planning on doing the exhaust? Don't try to save money now and take a chance on having to do it all again. You'll never come out ahead that way. I'd swear by the SLP's and would use them again, but I've heard good things about TES too. Good luck
