cat back/header questions
cat back/header questions
I got the new JEGS catalog. I saw Dynomax has a cat-back for $154. It comes with the Super-Turbo muffler. I had some questions about it for anyone who has experience with set-up.
It doesn't say if it 3" or 2.5". Which is it?
Does it have dual outlets or single?
Does it come with the outlet pipes?
I have 1-5/8" Heddman headers going to a 2.5" y-pipe. With this Dynomax set up, how much total over stock horsepower is this set-up worth on my car? (See sig)
And how much horse power COULD it hanlde?
I am now really looking for sound, just good power and good quality at a fair price. Married with child and military, gotta go sorta cheap on price.
Thanks
Chris

Let me give it a whack.
Most aftermarket come with 2.5" tailpipe extensions (unless otherwise specified).
Since it is an OEM replacement, yes it will have (and does) one per side.
I am not sure, but it should come with the extension pipes so you can hook up your own.
Headers = roughly 25-30 rwhp
Cat-back = roughly 10-15 rwhp
Combined = roughly 30-40 rwhp
Most EOM replacement systems can go upto (I'd say) 300 rwhp.

Not tryin' to start a flamed post here, especially being new on the block, but I've never heard of anyone with a documented 40 horsepower on any mostly stock 350 V8 by adding headers cat(or no cat) and cat-back. I'd say, you'd need closer to 350-400 horsepower to see that kind of increase with a seriously poor flowing exhaust system as a baseline to see that gain. I'd say it would be more like 20, maybe 25 tops. You could dyno it and find out, but that's expensive for what you're really after. Torque shouldn't be affected too much, power should be better in the upper RPM's. Never over-estimate your power figures, you'll just get disappointed. Most power adder bolt ons don't give you much, it's stuff like a good cam kit and heads with a strong bottom end that'll really pay off, with a well-tuned, and computer modified car.
