Aftermarket Cat or no cat at all.......

I'm going to install some headers on my car and get the beginning of the exhaust system done since my recent encounter with a V6 mustang.......

I was wondering about the catalytic converter though..........i was thinking of just welding a pipe in there instead of installing a new one........BUT will the car be ridiculously loud since i have no mufflers on the car?
Also can you get a driving ticket for not having a cat on the car???
I have no emissions testing which is great...
Also if i decide to go with a cat what is the best for the smallest amount of money to go with??

Thanks in advance.....

Having no cat is a federal offense I believe, not sure though.

If you plan on running no mufflers ever, I'd say go with a cat, no cat will make it way too loud for the street.

If I was you I would take out the cat and install a muffler...why the hell arent you running a muffler?

You said running no cat sounds bad imagine no muffler.

Yeah I think not running any cats is a federal offense...oh well Im sure im breaking more than a couple with my setup.

Yup, you guys are right, If you are caught without one it's a $2,500 fine and a towing of your vehicle...........

So the welding is out of the question.....Cops down here have been know to peek under the cars they suspect of racing to make sure they have them.....

So where can i purchase the best aftermarket cat for a reasonable price??

Thanks

I've read that a "high flow" cat is not much different than running straight pipes, when it comes with performance, the difference is not noticible at all.
I say go for the cat.....and mufflers.
later
biker
ps what happened with the V6 mustang?

It beat me..... .......It's horrible yes i know, that's why despite my spending on appearance, I'm going to spend a little here and there to get the 305 to wake up a little bit, so i can handle those damn cars.......headers and a new cat are first on the list......

I did a search and found that Catco Catalytic converters are pretty common are those the best to go with??

Car: Camaro of course
On my car I'm not running a cat...uhh I mean my friends car. Anywho if your camaro is lowerd any, or even sometimes stock height it's really hard to see under there. If the cop gets smart just say there by the bottom of the headers. As far as the whole federal offence goes, big deal most cops wont bother to check, unless they catch you at a street race or something (but that's what a scanner is for). Put a muffler on, and loose the cat.
