I will keep posting until someone tells me that no one really knows anything about these kinds of mufflers.
anyway I think the dynomax race bullets with 3" in 3" out look good for the price theyre asking, but I want a deep sound from my exhaust.
I think I might be ok since Im getting hedman long tubes but I really dont want the mufflers to make my motor sound raspy.

i have a 92' Z28 305TPI, i put the dynomax race bullet on this weekend and it is HELLA LOUD!! the bullet got rid of the raspy sound of a open pipe and is a little bit quieter than an open pipe but but other than that its bassicly an open pipe
my whole exhaust is stock i was thinking about gutting the cat but its loud enough!!!!!!!! the only complaint i have is that my first gear was faster with the stock muffler. i think im loosing too much back pressure first gear doesnt have much power till 3,500. but the other gears pull faster to redline
if you have any other questions about the dynomax bullet let me know...

i just read your post again. if you looking for a sound as deep as an american thunder (flowmaster) or hooker than dont get the bullet. the bullet has a deep sound until 2,500 but than it starts to sound like crap. if you already have headers just get a 3" american thunder that would be loud and deep. i would of gone that route but im a poor college kid and couldnt afford the whole catback.

thats just the thing--
I dont have mucho money to drop on another catback (already have the dynomax 3in that I will sell) so I was just going to go from headders to some race mufflers and exit to the sides under the doors or just turndowns under the pass. compartment.
only problem with your setup is that you still have the cat (unless I read it wrong) I would like to know what kind of sound I can get with long tubes and race mufflers.

Remember that these are a "RACE" muffler. they are very loud, even louder than glass packs, but if you are not concerned about noise, they do make great power, just make sure you do not kill to much back pressure. With the 1 5/8 hedmans you shouldn't have to much of a problem with that. I base my comments about the noise and power on an exhaust test that Car Craft did.

That will be way to much of a system for a 305. The exhaust will be loud, you wont have back pressure and you'll lose torque. If you go to running a race bullit from your curret system, i can almost garuntee you will see a torque and also a HP decrease. A lot of people around here want to run the biggest lowest backpressure system that they can and for 90% of people on this board, especially the 305 and the V-6 guys the systems that they come up with are way to much. Keep your money and save up for a 350 or 383. Or for a cam and other internal engine stuff.

what r u guys talking about.
I am not going with 1-1/2 in headers because you say I will lose backpressure.
I think I know what Im doing and I did not ask my question about loosing pressure.
I just asked how they would sound.
I already have a freeflowing system and if anything i should gain HP from a switch to headers.
and in case you didnt know , long tubes support more torque than shorties, so I am not especially worried there either.
for future reference could further posts please be limited to the SOUND of the various race mufflers I listed.
thank you

What are U talking about?
First of all, how are we supposed to describe what an exhaust sounds like over a message board? It sounds like Vroom Vroom, does that help?
Second, who said anything about header size? And who makes a 1 1/2 inch header? The smallest i know of are the 1 5/8, and then the 1 3/4.
Your post was about what muffler to run, not headers. I was simply saying that runing that muffler would kill your backpressure. Backpressure is not only created by the exhaust manifold or headers, but the whole exhaust system. And how am I supossed to know how much you know? if you want to run a race muffler, go ahead and be my guest, i was just trying to inform you of something that you might not have taken into consideration.

sorry did not mean that to sound like a flame. i appriciate your insights and am sorry if i did not respect them.
please understand that I just wanted to ask what kind of sound I could get with long tubes and race mufflers. I dont think it should be too hard to say "yes they are raspy or no they are deep". comparisons with other brands work just fine.
I would say jive-305 did a good job of it. and bowtiroc seems to agree that backpressure (a term I wouldent use but whatever) shouldent be a problem with 1-5/8s.
as for the rest of it, I wish I could say I think backpressure as you describe it as being 'neccessary' is something I agree with, but it isnt. so lets just leave it at that because I have seen PLENTY of posts about exhaust pressure vs. velocity and am not concerned with the setup I am going to. 1-5/8 long tubes (even open) would not be too much for a 305, and besides I do want to upgrade the heads when I get a chance.
it seems like you are saying that you need mufflers and cats and things for the back pressure specifically.
well, I had come to belive that for the power producing rpm band on a tpi motor (2500-5000), everything past the headers (except for maybe some tuned pipes) is unneccesary, and causes flow losses robbing HP. I am always learning however so I would take any logical explination otherwise very seriously.
thanx for the input.
