Got my TES headers...
They finally came in yesterday, as well as my roller rockers and pushrods. I bolted them up and got to bolting up the Y-pipe, and I bolted on the driver's side first. On the passenger's side, there was a huge gap between the collector and the Y-pipe, so it would not bolt up. Any one else have this problem? Could it just be the two piece Y-pipe, and the way it is put together? Any help is appriciated,

No, I didn't. I scrapped it when I took the emissions off over a year ago. Oops. I figure I can put something in its place...
Another thing, on the 305 head, which valve is the intake and which is the exaust? I thought the exaust was on the left and intake on the right but I could be wrong. Anyone know???

so does the TES not bolt up?? I was thinking about ordering them soon. I dont have any of the crap from the stock exhuast. Not sure what the "flapper" is. If they are a PITA to install I might go ahead and get hookers...or maybe even SLP.

Mine bolted right in with no real problems to speak of, other than the typical ones common with working on cars, but I have a 350 though. I bought my headers for my 89 Formula 350, which had that flapper, but put them on my GTA which (if I recall correctly) did not have it. The Y-pipe is a real ***** to get in right, it took about 35 minutes to get it right, but it wasn't a big problem. What I did was, just start the bolts on the left so that the collector flanges are loose, then slide the right side up in there and start it's bolts. Then once all the bolts are started, I wiggled & jiggled the damn thing until I got a good seal at both collectors and then tightened all the bolts down till they were just past snug. That part sucked because all the blood in my hands & arms ran out, and they went to sleep about half way through. Then I clamped the pipes together with the supplied clamp, and tightened the collector bolts tight. After that I took it out and ran it up and down the road to get everything nice & hot, and brought it back in and loosened the collector bolts, and the clamp, shook it a bit more and bolted it all back together tight. Re-torqued the header flange bolts at the head, dropped the hood and spanked it a bit more. Since I installed them, I have had NO problems with them coming loose or any leaks, that was about 9 months ago. It just takes a little time & patience to get it in right. Good luck.

Yeah, I lost that butterfly valve somewhere... I just finished the install on it, and it turned out great. I just cut a piece of 2 1/4 pipe about 2 and 1/2 inches long, flared one end, put different gaskets in and presto! TES on the '84 without that annoying butterfly...

Vacuum operated valve to warm up the engine faster I believe... Mine was gutted already or it fell apart lol.

I don't think that the post 86 or 87 cars had them. The idea was that the motor would warm up faster if the exaust gasses were retained inside the exaust manifold by virtue of a vaccum operated butterfly valve, similar to a choke plate. It was wired to the emmisions and the electric carb, I believe. If you have TBI, it is less likely that you had one. It unevens the backpressure on the two sides of the engine, which leads me to belive that this butterfly could cause unwanted wear on the motor, but I could be wrong...

The TES will bolt up without it, although it takes just a little innovation. Look in my post half way through this thread to see what I did.
Just about ready to start the Camaro after a 6-month long build up. Thats right.... a long six months without by beloved camaro to drive... All changing tomorrow. It ought to be the ride of a lifetime.

The butter fly goes on the passenger side of the engine. If you got rid of smog, just use a piece of straight pipe with a flange. The butterfly will just flap if you disconnected it, read above.
Hope this helps,
