Scraping my Catylitic Converter

If i go more than about 1/2 a mile an hour over a speed bump, i nail my catylitic converter(dont know how to spell) and it is all scraped up, and has a bunch of dents in it.....is there a smaller or low profile cat i can get, or can i go without one....it could also be that i need new shocks, but i dont know?
