Porting header ports...

Anyone ever tried porting the sqaure ported headers to fit on D-shaped ports?
A buddy of mine opened up the ports on his 1 3/4" SLP headers to make them fit on his FastBurn heads' D-shaped ports. He grinded quite a bit away with a Dremel and was thinking about doing this to mine. I have a similar setup/problem. The welds were grinded down but of course not completely. Seems like he opened the ports a bit bigger than the heads but looks good regardless.

Any thoughts on this?

Im glad to hear that someone else has done this. I am in the process of doing this with my 1 3/4 SLPs and Fast Burn heads and I think it will work fine.

Everyone says that you need special headers with the fastburn heads, but it looks to me like you can do some hogging and make it work.

Yep, I reshaped my header ports a little bit on my SLP 1 3/4" for my L98 heads. Its not a big deal. The 1 3/4" size aleady fits over the exhaust port pretty well, unlike some other company's 1 5/8" and 1 1/2" headers.

Yeah it looks like it would work. My buddy used a really small cutting bit on his Dremel so it doesn't look very pretty. Regardless the ports are now opened up so I think I'll try it.

Anyone else?

Some porting would be benifitial if done correctly, but simple 'port matching' can actually hurt power on street cars due to reversion (when the pressure wave travels back up the pipe and pushes intake charged air back out of the cylinder)

Leaving the exhaust port on the head somewhat smaller than the hedder inlet fight reversion because the pressure wave travels along the outside of the tube (just like voltage and current in electic circuits, voltage {pressure} tavels along the outside of the conductor, while current {flow} travels through the center)

The outlet on the head is not the biggest restriction in the system. Valve size and basic bowl porting/short side radius work is more benifitial to start with.
