Headers?
Headers?
Hey, I have a '92 z28 with a 350 tpi, and i was wondering what headers would be the best to add on to it. Should I put headers on or waste money on something else? What will give me the most bang for my buck?

Doing work on the intake side of the engine will possibly add some initial power, however, you will never get the most out of both your engine and new parts if you don't let it breath properly. If you are looking to only do one thing right now, I would say the a good cat back system would be the best place to start. Your car will pick up some power, sounds better, and look a little better if you use some nice tips. This can all be done for less than $300 in most cases. If you have a little more money this would be a perfect time to add the headers as well. However, be careful. While some headers, such as those from SLP, are very good they can be very very difficult to install and are very expensive. If you are looking for a good place to start, the Edlebrock TES headers are a very good deal for only around $300, and I would suggest getting them coated as well. If you do the headers back, you will notice a fairly large power increase. You can save a lot of money if you do all this work yourself. It is quite time consuming, but considering most shops won't install headers on these cars for less than about $500, it's a good deal. Hope this helped, if you have any questions feel free to write.

Sorry I didn't see that you already have a cat back. The headers will still be a good place to get going. You will notice some performance increase. Probably about as much as you noticed when you put on your cat back, in my opinion. The rear gears could also be a good option, you will notice much better short run et's. However, be weary of what rear you have. I am not sure what rear is in the 92, but if it's the same that are in the previous cars that dumb aust. 9 bolt they break quick, and any added stress back there could cause problems. Also don't go over board, no more than about 3.73. Anything more than .25 points higher will yield a nice difference. Another really good place to start would be a new air intake. Good luck.
I would spend the $300 or so that it costs to get a set of Edelbrock TES headres. Since you already have the cat-back on there, the headers will help dramaticly. They are probably worth a good .4 second decreaes in the 1/4 ET on your car!

a 92 350 TPI will already have 3.23s, I wouldn't mess w/ the gears currently since those aren't too bad at all (and it isn't cheap to do, especially if you pay someone else to install them).
I think headers would be perfect. That in conjunction w/ porting your plenum and installing an AFPR at the same time will really help. I have Edelbrock TES headers on my 87Z, and just finished putting a set on my brothers 86 IROC today. Good headers for the price. Install is kinda a PITA though.
