What are the basic facts about headers??

In addition to making the engine breathe better and free up some power, I would like to know how headers affect your power curve. I recall someone posting a message about installing a set of SLP headers and noticing a very slight drop in low-end punch, but a significant gain over that...does that happen with ALL headers?

Basically they are a PITA to install no matter what kind you get!!!

Everyone here will tell you this is better than that and this is easier to install than that.

Frankly I think you are on your own!

I just would like for these guys that have installed these headers to give their mechanical background.

One person will say SLP headers are great and easy to install and the next one say's their great but a pain to install. And it goes on and on and on......

What a friggen nightmare!

I'm at the point where I'd just rather forget about the whole idea.

If anyone replies to this post, I just ask ONE simple favor.

Describe the header you have, the year car you put them in, and your mechanical abilities.

Is that too much too ask??

Sunbitz, sounds like you dont have much patience. Nothing is really easy on cars, it all takes time. Headers are actaully very easy to install, just takes a long time.

I have Edlebrock TES headers. Yes I installed them myself and did a great job except for snapping one hose, but I fixed it.

It took me about 11-13 hours, but that is because I am a rookie at this kind of stuff. All I have done myself before I did my headers was gut my catylitic converter, put on an open element air cleaner, installed my leather seats, and installed a little bit of sterio equipment.

Headers are definately worth it. They sound much better and flow much better. I got edlebrock just since they are cheap, they are starting to rust a little bit on the Y-pipe, but im not really concerned because I want to get a bigger engien later and get bigger headers.

2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from http://www.MrMikes.com

I put SLP 1 5/8" headers on my 91Z and it took me about 10-15 hours but it wasn't all that bad, its just time consuming. All that matters is after your done your car will be awesome. It is well worth the time. I'm relatively new to working on cars, but I did most of it by myself and only ran into a few problems. If you have someone to help you it will make a huge difference.
