Cutting collectors off SLP headers to weld on 3" collectors?

I know this is a long shot but has anyone ever chopped off the little, wimpy 2-1/4" collectors that are standard on the SLP headers to replace with a good 3" collector?

sounds like a damn good idea to me and when i get mine from a friend i'm going to try and do it....i'm also going to fab up my own 3" or 3.5" if it will fit and then get a mufflex.

the only problem with the new collector is that it wont be stainless steel, but you can just have it coated anywany.

sounds like we have to implement some more

I've thought about it. I don't know why they don't offer their headers with a larger collector. I would have bought a set long ago if not for that one flaw.

Anyone know where to get some stainless collectors? I know where to buy regular header collectors for 1.75" primaries ... but, where can you buy the stainless collectors?

I should clarify something here. I was thinking of calling SLP to see if they will sell me a set of SLP 1-3/4" headers with the collectors NOT welded to the pipes yet. Then I could just add a standard 1.75" header collector and the headers would look totally stock. So, I would need a 'header collector' which has the protrusions for the 4 primaries. I know where to buy these in regular steel. But, does anyone know where to buy them in stainless .... hmmm .... maybe SLP actually has some of these too

SLP Sux the big one. There is no way that they will sell the headers without the collector welded on. Furthermore, they won't sell the prebent header tubes. C'mon - they sell the ball flange separately, they sell the header flanges separately ... why the F%&K won't they sell the the prebent pipes. Oh well. I guess you would have to cut off the existing collector and weld on a standard 3" stainless tube.

Tim, I modified my SLP 1 3/4" headers like that, but I used a 2.5" collector instead of a 3" like you want. My dad has a friend who builds headers and we bought them from him, and had him bend it for us to match the headers. I think you've seen the pics... ?
