It's not going to be as loud as you think it's going to be, but still sounds very nice. I have slp's, catco, to american thunder.

I have it on my 84 z-28 w/350, it is real deep sounding and is loud under acceleration, I have a mild cam in mine and no cat and it will rattle the windows at idle in my house better than my stepdad's semi truck. It will also set off car alarms, I have heard that it sounds best with no/gutted cat and a 350 or larger engine, that it sounds hollow on a 305

I JUST PUT ON A FLOWMASTER 80 SERIES. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE SAME AS A AMERICAN THUNDER BUT EVEN ON MY 305 A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SOUND OVER THE OLD STOCK MIDAS THING THAT MY PREVIOUS OWNER HAD ON THE CAR. IN FACT THE NEXT DAY A NEIGHBOR OF A FRIEND OF MINE CAME OUT OF HIS HOUSE TO SAY "BOY THAT MUST BE A FAST CAR, JUST LISTEN TO HOW IT SOUNDS". AND I WAS JUST IN NEUTRAL WITH NO REVING. SOUNDS REALLY GOOD AT STOP LIGHTS AND ON ACCELERATION YET NOT SO LOUD AS TO DRAW THE LAW BOYS. IF THE 5.7 WOULD SOUND EVEN BETTER I SAY GO FOR IT. FOR A $100.00YOU CAN'T BEAT IT SINCE IT MAKES A PERFORMANCE CAR SOUND LIKE A PERFORMANCE CAR.

The only hollow sounding Flowmaster exhausts are the ones without cats.

I own this setup. 305 TBI American thunder with a gutted cat. Sounds freaking awsome. Now, i also own a 83 camaro with a 355 with serious internal mods (292 cam, 2.05 intake on aluminum heads, forged pistons, 11:1 compression ect...) and IT has Headers, No cat (straight pipe) and a flowmaster 30 series. No hollow sound there, just a window ratling-cammed up-loud crazy engine-guy next to you wont even look over-because his windows are shaking so bad-evil drag racing car haunch-tires too wide for their own good-car. enough said? but my stock 305 with AT exuast and a gutted cat (stock manifolds tho) sounds real loud at WOT or near WOT or even kinda 1/4 throttle, and sounds like a low almost inaudible rumble at low RPMS like idleing and cruising. perfect. iwana see how that 80 series sounds on my drag car. prolly ratle windows OUT of cars instead of just ratle them. i hope so. i think ill know soon.

I just put the Am. Thunders on my 92 350 z28, they sound great. THe disappointment is that they don't sound as loud as they boast, but they sound deep at idle and really aggresive at WOT. They are much louder than stock. My friends say they can hear me coming which is awesome. Besides sound they are an awesome performance increase. My z used to run 14.3-14.2's stock now with the Am. Thunders I run 13.9's consistently.

I put the American Thunder system on my 5.7 IROC last summer, replacing the 80 series muffler I had. It is loud, but not like some of the Mustangs. Those guys have some loud exhaust. Under accerlation, it really sounds good, loud, muscular. At idle, it is more mellow and not as noticable in the car, but still okay outside. I can still hear it inside my house when it comes down the street or just idling in the drive.

The American Thunder system doesn't use an 80 series muffler. If memory serves me right, it uses a 50 series muffler. Don't ask me why either. I think I read that on Flowmaster's website. Probably one of the best bang for the buck exhausts in my opinion. Fit was great for mine.

That's what I was thinking, but I swear I read that somewhere. I just don't remember where. Maybe I had a brain fart or something, I don't know.
