Side pipes for 3rd gen?

I found some side pipes in JC Whitney the kind that came on the 67 Vette (Stingray)It said for all cars and pickups. They have different lengths and could probably be cut down but I want to know if anyone has seen or put some on their car(3rd gen Camaro perferably) I want to know if it looks ok or like crap. If you have pics please post or give me site where they are. Thanks all

Naw that would look funky + they would hit the ground. side pipes would have to stick out about an inch and im thinking they might interfer with the door. Just my opinion

I don't know if they would interfere with the door but ground clearance already isn't the greatest, adding those would make it horrible. You would probably just end up smashing them in anyways.

hehe side pipes on a third gen?? dude are you from the south? (i'm not insulting you cuz i am too) side pipes went out in the 70s. trust us, u don't want them on a thirdgen. it would look terrible. now you could make the exhaust exit through the bottom of the ground effects, that would be unique.

Theres some dude around here with those big semi-lookin side pipes on a white 3rdgen firebird i see every now and then. (Illinois just for the record). Dosen't look all that ridiculous, but like everyone said, theres still the ground clearance issue. To each his own i guess, but i don't think i'd put em on MY car.

No half competent garage will inspect a 3rd with sidepipes.

If sidepipes went out in the 70's then why did they put them on the 2003 viper which happens to have over 500 h/p

The Boss Mustangs had sidepipes a few years ago. I don't know if they are still doing that or not. I think it just depends on how you do it. The Mustangs and the Viper both had pipes that blended with the body of the car. They were the same color and not like the ones from the 70's. I've never seen them on a 3rd Gen so I can't really comment on how they would look. It depends on how they were done I guess.

My neighbor just bought a new Shelby Cobra replica, car is champagne, huge sidepipes are black, looks and sounds awesome! Some cars lend themselves to that look better than others. If you don't have ground effects, might look OK. Just my .02.

ok...

an AC cobra is a race car, it actually needed side pipes.

the vipers and mustangs had sidepipes incorporated in their ground effects, like i told him to do if he wanted side pipes. i understood him to mean the chrome ones one the 60s vettes. now those would look terrible.

i found some side pipes from a company called spin tech. the pipe transitions from round to oval. it has a low profile muffler and then turns out into an oval exaust port....sizes are 3/3.5/4/5 inches. you can choose between round or oval. toll free number is 888-550-7746 give em a call i think they would be neat....if i had them i would jerry rig them to exit out of my GFX just before the rear wheels........BTW the ad was in the april 2001 issue of chevy high performance on page 112.

I have seen sidepipes on a black 87 L98 Iroc. It looked decent, but it sounded kinda weak, believe it or not. It was like bursts of sound, not constant, made it sound like the engine was struggling. I'd much prefer a nice, clean, dual-outlet catback to be honest. Good idea on many older cars, but ours, I vote no.

i am in love with a deep rumbling almost stalling kinda sound, my dad had a 68 rustang that had true duals, front tires stuck out and the car just generally looked bad *** .......and to top it off it shook like a **** i never cried in that car(i was like 2 years old) and i pitched a hell of a fit when my dad sold his(race car).....the shaking is cool my camaro does it and ill just sit in ti and listen to it for an hour....my dads mustang was just un describable it was wicked...302 450 horsies...C4 automatic withshelby parts impregnated inside......burned em in every gear....would light em up just thinking about it.......ahh the old days pauses and reflects i want to lower my idle down to 500 rpm, it's at about 700 now in drive with a/c on....and it shakes enough it turns your stomach inside out sitting at a stop light, i have to shift to N for my g/f so she doesnt get sick... hehehe

Definitely in the realm of opinion here
aren't we?
I have so many people trying to tell me what
to do at work, home, etc.- but with my car...
I just do it the way I want it to look.
I suggest taking a picture of your car and
pictures of some different side pipes and
cut and paste. It will give you an idea.
I agree with the guy who like the S. Cobra -
Those are some good looking pipes! And...
it does depend on the car. Don't see many
Cadillacs with sidepipes.
God bless ya - do what YOU like.
Chuck
