header help!!!!!!!! dipstick and headerbolt question??????????????????

header help!!!!!!!! dipstick and headerbolt question??????????????????

Been tring to install my 1 3/4" slp headers for the last two days on my 87 Iroc. What a bitch. First of all, how do I get the oil dipstick out? I can pull it about 6inches up but cant get it out any further. Its really in my way in installing the passenger side header. Second question is, a couple of bots wont go all the way in the head. I can start them with my hand and after abou two turns then they get tight. I try wrench and I am able to turn but with ALOT more force then there should be. The old bolts came out fine and werent rusted or damage or anything. Should I force the bolts in? If not what can I do?? Any other tips on installng these ba$tards??

I ddint even mess with the dip stick, I bent it toward the front of the car so now the handle is under the AC compressor. It works fine. I woudl try those bolts on other holes to see if its the bolts or the wholes.

its not the bolts they are new and Ihave tried them in different holes and work fine. Anything I can do to those problem holes?

Im not to worried about the dipstick its just in my way while Im working and it gets annoying. I did bend it once but I didnt like the looks of the crease in the tube.

Buy a tap the same size as the bolts and hand tap the tight holes. Don't force the bolts,this should work. Good luck

yeah rust probably jsut built up, a tap should work, I was lucky and there are no creases in my dip stick tube, a perfect bend, the dip stick goes in and out fine.
