Can a dual cat setup fit onto an originally single cat car???
I'm wondering if a dual cat setup can fit onto a car that was originally equipped with a single cat setup? I'm building a Superramed 383 (barring I don't run out of money *crosses fingers*) so I'm not worried about making low end torque. I'm considering the dual cat setup, if the kits come with 3" piping for the cats, that way I can merge them into a 4" pipe for the cat back. I need to know if all of the hangers for the exhaust and everything will fit between the two systems? I'm looking to have no restrictions in the exhaust (i.e. 3" cat/y-pipe collector with 3.5" or 4" cat back). If anyone has pictures of dual cat setups on cars, as well as specs about the piping sizes, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

A dual cat setup needs a proper set of 2.25" exhaust manifolds... the pn's end with 063 and 064 but I forgot the beginning numbers. They came on cars with 3" cats or the duals.
If your car is a 305/auto for '90 you probably have a 2.25" inlet cat and the dual cat will NOT bolt up to your present exhaust manifolds.
You'll also need a exhaust hanger from the tranny to the inside cat. And those are different between auto's and manuals just in case you find one.
Just FYI, the piping on a factory dual cat is not 3". It's only about 2" (memory is foggy on that right now) and the exhaust pipe to the muffler is 2.5" or 2.75" (another memory glitch - sorry... still need mo' coffee).
All the hangers out back are all the same.
Probably just as easy or easier to rig up headers with a hi flow single cat.

I'm just planning for my 383 buildup. I will get headers when that's done, and the transmission will be a manual. All of these parts will be aftermarket.
