those with 82-87 camaros/birds and SLP headers

Im still in the middle of putting in my 1 3/4 headers and am having more trouble. I ordered the install kit for the 82-87 so that i would have the modified air conditioning bracket. I know it fits over the #1 and #2 header bolts on the driver side. I know I have to reuse the the old studs for these two holes but the #2 stud wont fit with the clearance around the header tubes . What are you using for the #2 hole ( a/c bracket hole) a stud or bolt? Either way it looks like I need a spacer of some sort too because there is a spacer attahced to my old a/c bracket but the new one doesnt have one. Do I need one? I cant seem to figure this out.

I just did that swap about a month ago. The brackets were a bitch! For the first bolt, I reused the bolt/stud combo thing. It is like a normal bolt, but has a threaded stud sticking out of it. I just tightened this bolt down all the way. Then, I slid the bracket over that stud and put a tightened a nut down on that stud. I used one of the SLP kit supplied header bolts for the number two hole. Nothing else was needed. On the 1st hole, I had to use some washers to allow the bracket to align properly with the other brackets. Mine used three washers, but you'll probably have to play with it to get it right. I think I took it on and off about 4 times. Once you have it started, both bolts tighten down completely. Oh yeah. Make sure you put the long power steering bracket on first Before putting on the washers and the a/c bracket. The order on the first hole is power steering bracket, washers, ac bracket, nut. I hope this helps. It's kind of confusing and long winded.

I have the #1 hole figurd out I think but the number two hole if i use the bolt from SLP, the a/c bracket wont meet up with it. To make it more clearer if I put the new a/c bracket on the the #1 stud and tighten it down,(with the other steering bracket and washers in place)This leaves about a 1/2" space between the a/c bracket and the header flange on the #2 hole. A bolt from Slp won't fit because it would be to short. And I cant fit a longer bolt in there because the header tube is in the way. Am I missing something? When you put the new a/c bracket on did the end of it on #2 hole meet up with the header flange or was there a space between the two like I described? Thanks

I know exactly what you are talking about! Just take some washers and grind down one side flat until they clear the header tube and meet with the header flange. Put in as many washers as you feel are necessary. Fixed!

On the #2 hole, there was about a 1/4" gap. The bolt supplied by SLP barely was able to reach and get started, but once started, it pulled the ac bracket al the way up and tightened down completely. If that doesn't work, do like CamaroMike and use grinded washers and a longer bolt. Thread size is 3/8-16.
