Flowmaster is louder, but I like the hooker sound better.

Initially I ran a Flowmaster 2-chamber on my car. Now I have the Hooker Aerochamber.

The Flowmaster sounded a bit better at idle.

The Hooker sounds better everywhere else. Deeper and louder. This muffler produces a meaner sound.

Just my opinion.

The Hooker Aeroclanker sounds like sh*t. Too loud, to metallic and not lush or deep, just dumb sounding. Get Dynomax unless you like loud.

My muffler is the least of my worries. I'd be suprised if I found one thing right with my car. CamaroX84, if you want it to sound good, get something like Dynomax Super Turbo, but if you want loud, go with Flowmaster.

I had a dynomax on my car when i bought it and all it did was roar. I didn't like the sound of it. It was also a rolled construction which fell apart and rattled like hell. I changed it to a flowmaster because I like the hollow rumbling sound. Everyone around here runs one it seems. It is welded construction and holds up good. Makes way more power with the flow and also better built.

I don't know if the straight in/out Aerochamber sounds like *** , and that's what someone is talking about, but the dual out Aerochamber that they sell for our cars sounds freaking badass, no ifs ands or buts about it.

I've got both, a Hooker setup on my 87Z and a Flowmaster dual out setup on my old 86 IROC (now my brothers). Both cars have TES headers. They both sound really mean, and either would make a good system to buy, but the Hooker Aerochamber system sounds better to both myself and my brother. Heck anyone that has heard both has preferred the Hooker system. I also really like the quad tips that come w/ the Hooker exhaust, some people (Jed I believe) don't like them. I think it beats the **** outta the turn downs with most systems...

I don't know what anyone is smoking saying the hooker system sounds hollow or tinny, that is simply not true (of the dual out units for our cars at least). That is a classic single in/out flowmaster trait if ever there was one (the dual out flow has just a hint of that sound, but is still deep and sounds really nice....)

The Hooker Aerochamber sounds the best IMO. I have a friend running a Flowmaster 80 series on his 88 IROC and I like the way my car sounds more.

I never said it sounds hollow or tinny.

I said it sounds like sh*t.

Does the Hooker provide a deep sound? I heard a Flowmaster on a 90 IROC 5.7, and it sounded badass. Do they sound alike at all? Thanks for the replies.

They don't all sound the same because not every engine is the same. Exhaust sound is made by how the engine is setup and how your exhaust is setup. When there are differences in 1 or both of those on another car, it will sound different from yours.

Some guys here say "why doesn't my Flowmaster sound like this car or that car I've heard." If u have just heard this car and don't know what its setup is, even if its the same engine and model, if the other car has mods or a different pipe size but the same muffler, its not going to sound like the car u like unless u find out exactly what the other dude has.

Hey Ray87Z -

Is this the Hooker catback? What size are the pipes? I need at least a 3" exhaust, and I'm hoping the Hooker is a 3" into 2.5" duals out the back. Am I right? Also, it did come with the quad tips, right? I like the looks of those...

Thanks...

i would say the flowmaster is the louder of the two but i like the hooker mutch better.

the hooker system i have from summit, three inch I-pipe and two 2.5 outs. the tips are not on from the factory, if yo uwant them then put them on. they are a 2.5 inlet and two 3in outlets each tip. the entire system is made well and the muffler isnot clamped on to the i-pipe it is a 3 bolt flange like a header collector. sounds verry nice and easy to install.

Well the one I have is the Hooker exhaust sold for 86-92 single cat 305 and 350 TPI cars listed as such in Jegs or Summit. That is the system with a 3" i-pipe and 2.5" dual outs of the muffler. It does come w/ the quad tips as well, they slip over the 2.5 inchers and clamp down. This bolted up to the stock 305 TPI 3" cat I had, and also to the Catco 3" hi-flow unit I later put on (which was sold as a direct replacement for the stock cat)... I have been really happy with the system thus far for both sound and quality (had it for a year and half maybe I guess).

What about the SLP cat back exhaust? I think they sound pretty good on the sound clips on this website. How do you think they compare with the Flowmasters? I love my flowmasters...but am thinking about buying a new flowmaster system...either the 80 series but was wondering how the SLP setup was. How much does it go for? How do they compare to the flowmasters?

I got the flowmaster system on my firebird. it is a single outlet, yet it is loud as hell. the only thing i don't like is that the single outlet looks gay as hell on my car, but it sounds so good.

I've got a Flowmaster American Thunder on order. How does it sound when you first start it up? How about when you rev it? I will have about 325 HP and headers with my new motor. Thanks.
