Cat delete=loss of power

I was wondering if when you take out your cat, do you lose power becuase of the loss in back pressure? any help thanks.

No, thats a old myth. You might even gain power because the stock cat is somewhat restrictive. However, you should put in a "high-flow" cat instead, do the right thing.

I agree. I bought a Random Tech cat for my car and it felt as good as my straight pipe without all the extra raspiness in sound. The new highflow cats are pretty good, Random being the best and most expensive (lots more washcoat materials on shorter ceramic bricks)

I agree about random tech...straight pipes sound nice, give lots of power, etc, but may not let you get through inspection(depending where you are)...I bought the random tech cat, and was very pleased with the performnace increase. Coupled with my flowmaster, the system sounds amazing

DAVE!!

Thanks... It's nice to be welcomed SOMEWHERE ... Jeff just closed down the forum a week ago this past thursday. He gave me no reason at all. I emailed him and never heard anything back. I'm sooo bummed. I really enjoyed moderating that forum. I guess the flack created about posting picts of original looking irocs only on his site got real hot & heavy, and suddenly, the site lost it's soul...sorry, I shouldn't vent like this. But, in a nutshell, that's what happened....

The Random Tech is sooooo close to what my bypass pipe was, it almost makes no sense to go otherwise as emissions are getting tougher in every state....I'm thinking of going with a GM Goodwrench hiflo track developed cat back. All aluminized and $280 for pipes and specific hiflo muffler with internal flow director baffling...Supposed to be 35% better flow over my stock 3" OE system...

Sandy
