Hooker Cat-Back with following mods...

After spending a rather long while searching through old topics, it seems most likely that I'll get a Hooker cat-back as part of my full exhaust. The only problem I have with it is the loudness level, at least at idle.

How loud can I expect it to be with a good set of headers and a high-flow cat? I'm also planning that I'll eventually get a heads/cam package - how much louder will this make it?

Thanks for the replies.

with the stock cam, you will see a difference in dB over stock but it won't be earth shaking. what are the specs on the cam and heads? (lift, duration, valve size) without that info, i couldn't tell you how much louder it would be after a cam head change.

Hey.

I put the cat back on my car and it didn't get much louder at idle. You can still talk over it without having to shout or anything.

As I won't be getting the H/C package for a long while,
I haven't considered the exact specs yet, or even what company I'll get it from. I don't want something excessively loud such that it's impossible to hold a conversation at a normal volume in or outside the car, but what I've herad is that the Hookers are rather quiet at idle. What change in volume would an "average" package make ?

could you be any more vague? average to me is alot bigger than average is to you. when i think of a crazy motor i think of a 400 small block bored and stroked to 434 cubic inches with 14* heads and .700" of lift with well over 300 duration and 2" Primary tubes with 4-5" exhaust, but to somebody else it could be a .488"lift cam with midly moded stock casting heads with 1 5/8" primaries and 3" exhaust. point is, without these numbers, i can't help you. my father has a .488" lift cam with stock casting heads and 3" exhaust with a 750 4bbl on top, just a mild motor with 10.5:1 compression. his motor is loud compared to most street cars, however, one can still have a conversation without shouting.
