I have the American Thunder cat-back with headers and a high flow cat. It sounds absolutely amazing. Very deep and mean. I have heard that Flowmasters sound like **** if you remove the cat. I am completely satisfied with mine.

I can back that up... as long as you have a cat, the American Thunder setup sounds brutal. Mine sounds AWESOME... deep and mean without a trace of hollowness. It's the 3" single out version, BTW.

My brother and I now have both a flowmaster dual out setup (not the particular system you're referring to), and a Hooker system to directly compare against.

Both cars now have TES headers, and 3" catco converters. My old 86 IROC (now my brother's) has the flowmaster dual out setup, my 87Z has the Hooker Aerochamber catback.

We both prefer the sound of my Hooker system, although the flowmaster setup by no means sounds weak or lame. It's just opinions and that is subjective but we both agree... I also really like the quad tips of the Hooker system over the turn downs of the flowmaster. Maybe you won't/don't.

Just my suggestion, but I'd go with the Hooker Aerochamber system between these two. I don't really have much experience w/ the SLP catback but it does have a good reputation for what it's worth...

My 91 1LE has a flowmaster. The catalytic converters were gutted when I bought it, but it still sounded good.

Oh, by the way, the Flowmaster system I have is 3" in, dual 3" out. The outlets are straight stainless pipes angle-cut on the end. They look awesome.

I have the Hooker Super Comps on my '80 with headers, and I have the flowmaster on my '88. I have to say that the hookers are near silent at idle, while the flowmaster sounds evil.
But then when I get on the gas, the hookers have such a wonderful sound.. Then again if you want power, from what I hear, the flowmasters walk all over the hookers. But hearing the '80 when I'm getting on it is a wonderful sound.

Who did you hear that from? Every magazine test I've ever seen shows Flowmasters at the bottom of the aftermarket, despite the name they flow the least. The actual CFM's isn't that big of a difference, but they actually do flow less than everything else. Also, hooker claims an increase in torque over open exhaust with the Aerochamber catback.

If you want my opinion on it, get the aerochamber. Everyone and their mother has flowmaster, its a cookie cutter exhaust. Be different and get a hooker. Aside from the fact that they're not nearly as obnoxious at idle, they've got better performance numbers and sound equally mean at WOT (i think they actually sound better at WOT)

guess I'm one of the few with the 3" SLP cat back system. I mainly went with it due to the "expected quality" being stainless steel and not aluminized. No headers yet, (if I did it would be the SLP's again) but with dual intake air cleaner it has enough sound at WOT. Idle is no obnoxious, just a steady "bump, bump, bump", definitely not metallic sounding like the mustanks exhaust or some flowmasters.

I've heard those all, it depends what kind of sound u want. I will say that I like Flowmaster alot more than any of them though.
