Flowmaster Series 80 & Dynomax Super Converter

Hello folks...
Been reading the Exhaust boards and have learned alot, but left with a couple of questions.
I have a 91 RS Convertible with a stock 305TBI. I bought a Flowmaster Series 80 muffler and a Dynomax Super Converter from Jegs a few months back.
The car was being repainted when I ordered the parts and I wound up getting a Series 80 muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets due to a mix-up in the part #'s at the jegs website. After finding out about this I thought I'd rather have the 3" set-up anyway so I decided to keep the muffler.
The Converter matches up to the stock intermediate pipe perfectly but the intermediate pipe is too small for the muffler. I think my intermediate pipe is either 2.25" or 2.5".
I called a local muffler shop and they want $134.00 for a 3" intermediate pipe which I thought was way to high considering I can order a complete exhaust system from JC Whitney for $134.00 + shipping.
When we got the car back from the paint shop, I figured I would install the cat and wait on the muffler until later. But I can't get the cat off! I removed all clamps and tie downs I could see and beat the cat with a hammer and still no budging the thing! It twists a tiny bit but that's it. I'm thinking the AIR is welded to the cat. I'm doing this in my driveway and only have the height of jackstands so getting under there is a bit of my problem. What do you guys suggest to get this thing off??

I read a article in Super Chevy Mag where they did the same thing I'm trying to do, but they bought a kit with a intermediate pipe that runs from a standard cat to a 3" muffler so I know flowmaster makes the pipe, but they only sell it in a kit.

Anyone know where I can get a intermediate pipe?? I've tried all the local junkards and did not find any.

Any tips and or suggestions?

I'll let you know how it turns out.
I did make a boo boo though!
It was Chevy High Performance Magazine not Super Chevy.
It's the July 2001 issue and has a article in there about a 87 Z28 with a 305ci they are turning into a 14 second car on a budget.
Interesting article!

The part number they give in the magazine is Flowmaster after-cat exhaust PN 17233 for $240! This comes with everything including the Series 80 3" muffler and all pipes and clamps. I could not find the part number in Summit or Jegs though.
The only part I found in jegs that closely matches the article is 389-17234 which is for a 89-91 and features a 2.5" cat and a 3" dual out for $324.99.

They don't mention where the parts were bought. Figures!

There is an ad in that magazine that lists "flowmaster tailpipe system" as that part number, and they have it for $240. I went to their website though and I couldn't find an order page so I just left. I think that magazine is underpricing alot of that stuff anyways, the cheapest I've seen it is $320 and Summit has lowest price garunteed. Besides that I'm not even sure they place that had it for $240 had the Intermediate pipe with it.

$134 doesn't really sound that bad for the pipe but keep in mind you can just buy a dynomax kit for $170 and throw out the muffler...
