Just got headers

I got them home and opened them up, first off they are Edelbrock TES ones, I forgot all about the AIR stuff and they have them on the headers, but I have long since taken the AIR system off my car. Should I just block it off again?

Also inside it says that there was a coating put onto them for shipping but will burn off as soon as exposed to the heat. I got the nickel chrome ones, will they keep their finish or do I need to get them coated?

That chrome finish will flake off once you start driving. Take pictures before you drive it anywhere just so you can say "thats what they used to look like..." They don't really charge that much for the chrome so don't feel ripped off, if you want them to stay like that, you will have to get them Jet Hot coated. Should cost about $250..

I would get them Jet-Hot coated. If nothing else, you can get a quote from their website and they send you a ton of information about their product. I am getting my TES's this week and they are going to be going to Jet-Hot when I get the money. They quoted me at $179 to coat shortie headers inside and out and $10 a foot for the Y-pipe. $250 sounds about right for them to do the whole thing. Everything that I have seen says that you should get them coated so you can keep temps lower. Without coating, the temps can get pretty hot under the hood, and that isn't a good thing for many of the parts under there.

What is Jet-hot coated? Is it black or chrome? So chrome on headers will just flake off? Would the stainless steel edel tes be good?
