A few simple header questions....

I am planning on getting the Edelbrock TES headers with air, and a catco cat, is catco a good high flow cat? I already have a flowmaster catback. Then I plan on calling this place in town about ceramic coating, or should I just send it to Jet-Hot? For this, do I just send the headers, or do I send the y pipe and the pipe that connects to the cat? I also saw in the summit mag, cutoff valves...They seem like you just weld them to your pipes before the cat and you can remove the cap and it would be like running open headers. Would this be a good idea for everyday car not a drag car. I don't have any emissions tests to pass here in Nebraska, so your imput please. BTW I am going to order new, locking bolts from Stage8 should I order a different gasket set or is the one that comes with it gonna last?

Or should I just go with the SLP headers (only if the GP is still in effect)

I really would appreciate any of your feedback you may have.....Thanks, Joe

Definatly go with the stage 8 bolts.. Go with some copper gaskets too. With stage 8 bolts and copper gaskets you will never see a leak.

I just put mine on and the car's temp hasn't changed since I put them on. I also didn't have any brake line clearance problems like some people are having.. The hardest part for me was getting the old crap off..

It is definatly worth the money. Headers are headers and they are going to give you about the same gains no matter which you choose. If you plan on keeping your car for another 5-10 years, I would Jet-Hot coat them or buy Stainless slp ones.. But if you just want them now and arn't worried about appearance just go with regular TES's..

outta curiosity, if you dont have any emmissions laws in nebraska then why are you paying all that money to upgrade your smog equipment, (cat, smog headers). imo if you dont have to pass smog, get some non emmissions headers and ditch the catalytic converter.

Honestly, I didnt really think about that, but the only 2 setbacks that wouldn't dirve the o2 sensor and make the check engine light come on? What if they ever change the laws and emissions here in Nebraska? Plus there is a huge fine if you get caught without a cat? What all would I have to change to do this? (what would I get rid of in the engine compartment)
What would I have to do to to get rid of the cat, would I have to weld the pipes together?

The GP in ongoing, and reduced the price of the SLP headers to about the same as the TES.

Personally, I'm keeping the smog equipment; There is no emissions testing where I live now, but since I plan on keeping the car for as long as it or I exists, I don't know if one day I'll move somewhere they WILL have testing, or if one day they'll impliment it here, so I just plan ahead. Easier to keep it all and not have to put it back on later, and it really doesn't hurt performance that much.

BTW, the SLP headers installation kit comes with the bolts, gaskets, and fire-sleeving for the spark plugs.

I've changed my mind, I think I am going to go with the GP and get the SLP headers, are the gaskets copper??, should I still go with the Stage8 Bolts? Does the headers come with the y-pipe and all? Would I still need to Jet-Hot them if they are stainless steal, because I need this to last, I want to keep this car until it or I go!!!! BTW, will I be able to keep the Thermomaster chip I have in it now or will it need a new reconfigured one?
Thanks for answering my dumb questions.....

Joe

the gaskets are steel crush ring I think, it comes with a y-pipe, I got mine coated (GP as well, $200) very nice, but there were problems.

oh ya, I got catco cats too and am happy with them so far as well especially for $55 a piece

There were problems? How and Where did you get the Cat for $55? Was it $200 extra for the coating, through the same GP?
Are the steel gaskets as good as the copper ones?
What about the bolts though? are they as good as the stage8?
Thanks

Would the 1-5/8" headers or the 1-3/4" fit better for my car or would it make no difference? Sorry about all of the questions.....
