flowmasters: 80 series or american thunder?
flowmasters: 80 series or american thunder?
whcih will sound better on my 86 Z28 w/ LG4, edelbrock headers, gutted cat: 80 series 2.5" flowmaster exhaust or 3" american thunder exhaust? if 1 is louder, then how much louder?
I am not 100% sure, but I think the American Thunder system comes with an 80 series muffler. But I don't know. Also, I have heard that Flowmasters sometimes sound crappy with gutted cats. I have the 3" American Thunder on my car with headers and a high-flow cat and it sounds awesome.

If you go to Flowmaster's website you'll see where the American Thunder system for our cars have 50 series mufflers. Right now I'm running the stock intermediate pipe with an 80 series Flowmaster and muffler turndowns. Oh yeah, I have an open element air cleaner too. But the muffler turndowns did ALOT for the sound of the car. I wonder what it would sound like with an Aerochamber muffler! My car has a REALLY deep tone now and it almost hurts my ears at cruisin' RPMs but I'm very satisfied with the turndowns. But my 80 series just sounds too tinny and I hate it!

I just went to the muffler shop and told the guy I wanted my pipes to turn down right out of the muffler and he did it. Cost me 20 bucks and I love it. They come straight out of the muffler like 4 inches and then they take a direct plunge to the earth. Gives a nice stealth look and a DEEP sound that get attention alot better than those 3 inch tips I had. Sounds SO much better.

I had the same thing done with my Dynomax Super Turbo, and it sounds very deep under hard accelleration. I did it when I first put the muffler on, not because of sound resonance, but because I don't like to see exhaust tips sticking out from under a 3rd Gen - just my personal preference. But I have heard other Camaro/Fiebirds w/ the Dynomax and tailpipes, and they don't sound near as good as mine do IMO.
