Exhaust ignition and Dynomax question
Firstly, how loud/good are Dynomax exhaust systems? I'm looking at an IROC with a cat-back Dynomax and was wondering how loud those are and good.
Second, I have been interested in the igniting of exhuast via a switched sparkplug. I have a rough idea how it is going to work, but is there any detailed, or somewhat detailed, procedure for setting this up? Thanks a lot!

Dynomax systems are fine for performance, and IMO the quietest aftermarket exhaust systems you will find. The only disadvantage to them is the small intermediate pipe for the dual cat IROC system. Mine sounds much better now with the cats cut out, and the car runs better too!
Ever since a buddy of mine had his muffler explode (put the dist. in 180* backwards) I don't toy with the idea of any flames near the muffler end of exhaust systems. I suppose you would have to overcome the closed-loop operation of the fuel injection system, disable the AIR system and make the car run rich to have enough fuel in the exhaust for a good flame. This may be accomplished by forcing the ECM into limp-home mode, but even then you may not have enough fuel in the exhaust to ignite it. Probably have to remove the cats too, but most of these things (except for removal of the cats and AIR system) will make the car slower, which begs the question...why?

Mods: Too busy trying to make it run right to mod it.
Airfoil, Dynomax cat-back, Accel coil, 180 t-stat, Bald Eagle tires,
Hypertech fan switch, Accel 23# injectors, Holley AFPR, ported plenum,
Ruger P95DC, hot wife, new oil filter, thick rubber floormats, no cats.

you can put together their old true 3" system if you have the right part numbers. I have the numbers for their 3" pipe. If you just ask for a 3rdgen catback you get a 2.5" intermediate pipe with a 3" cat flange.

Sorry, this is a little off, but has anyone ever dealt with Dynomax headers? I have found some at a parts store, but I'm not sure about the quality. Thanks for any info you can get me.

I don't know if this is such a good idea or not, but here goes. If you split you fuel line and run one to the engine and one to the exhaust, that attach a solenoid to the line that goes to the exhaust, and then use a small orificed piece of tubing, then you could inject fuel into your tail pipe. If you got an old coil from the junk yard that works then you could run a 12V wire to that and run a plug and wire off of the coil into the exhaust. You should get much fire. For safety I recomend installing this as far to the back as possible. To activate it rev the engine up to like 3000 to get goo exhaust flow and throw the switches. Don't do it for very long, because the coil might burn up. I don't know since I've never done it before, but I've been toying with the idea. It could also be done with an MSD rev limiter or a carbed engine with manual choke.
