Installed 3inch, no cat, now car runs like $%^&

I know this topic is kinda hot right now about running no cat. my nieghbor put on edelbrock emission headers;1 5/8 and 3 inch pipe all the way back, and 80 series flowmaster. the thing runs worse i think. it sounds really good, but didnt pick up any gains, atleast it doesnt feel like it. its a stock 305 TBI car. i think that says it all. should he put a cat on it? would that help any? it just doesnt seem to run right. thanks for any help.

Also make sure hes running an open element air cleaner.

Did he plug the smog tubes? Delete the AIR pump? This needs to be done if the cats gone.

The suggestions here are good . When you go for headers/ larger pipe it frees up the exhaust "Your saying DUH " This is only part of the equation "the most restrictive mind you" Now that the exhaust is free you can take in more air hence the "open element filter" now that you have more air you need more fuel "boost fuel pressure" now that the fuel pressure is boosted and more air can get into the combustion chambers the free flowing exhaust is needed to expel the exhaust. All of these combined make a more efficient engine, not just one. Although in some cases upgrading the exhaust helps a lot because it one of the most restrictive elements of the system.

the stock emmisons stuff is still on it, well except for the cat. the air tube that went to the converter hanging there, not hooked up to anything. i will look into boosting the fuel pressure, how much should i raise it?

Crimp the line it could cause a problems including backfire on deccelration.
Fuel pressure is hit or miss crank it al the way up and then back down until you get the desired amount. Im not a Fuel injection guy at least camaro wise but my blazer TBI is cranked up full blast with no problems.
