high flow cat

high flow cat

I have been seeing alot of different cat companies latley, one I saw on the board alot is catco and they seem pretty good, but also I saw one from jegs from a company called dynomax, these converters say they allow more air then the catco so I just wondered what you guys think, also I when I get these Im gonna have them installed in a place called cole muffler, its popular here in NY, and they said they wont touch the cats unless they are damaged, and me having no knowledge about cars where would I find them in my car, I have looked around and there is 2 bubble like metal pieces toward the front of the car, are they my cats, they are connected to my exhaust pipes, but I didnt know my 88 formula had dual cats, and if I do does it mean I have to buy 2 highflow cats? anyhelp getting rid of the old and getting the new would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

Howdy neighbor (from Rochester)!

Those "bubbles" are your cats alright. Yes, you should replace both of them.

As far as brand... I have been investigating this too for my IROC. I have read on this forum that the Dynomax cats are about $100 more than the Catcos. In your case, since you would need two. That would be $200 more than the Catcos. I can't say if one is better than the other. Except that some wrote that the Catcos fit better. But, for what I am looking for, the Catcos (being $100 cheaper) are good enough for me!

You will probably have to take it to a privately owned garage to get them replaced rather than a chain like Cole Muffler. What part of Syracuse do you live in? I have family there who might be able to recommend someplace you can get them installed.

I live on the outskirts, about 8 miles from the city in a town called fayetteville, also I saw in the jegs catolog a dynomax cat for only like 89 bucks which is why I was wondering about catco since dynomax is supposedly better, anyways I think ill prolly get 2 dynomax from the jegs catolog they have some direct fits that will go nicely with my formula, its good to see another CNY member around here, oh and I wanted to ask you IROC'N if anyone in your fam knows a good speed shop around here, I want to do so much work to make my beat a real beast and I dont know squat about boring or replacing heads or any of that good stuff, thanks again..

I guess, the Dynomax cats that I read about in the forum were different models. They said they were about a $100 more than the Catcos.

I will check with my brother in Syracuse to see if he has any suggestions. I will email with what I find out.
