How Do I check for a clogged muffler??

How Do I check for a clogged muffler??

Not that it matters too much, because I am getting new exhaust installed in a couple of weeks, but I was wondering if there is any way to check with the muffler on the car. Would the muffler run hotter than normal?

anyone?, I have access to a heat sensor tool where you point it at an object and it gives you a surface temp reading.
