84 Z28 Questions

I have an 84 Z-28 and I know that I'm sure that I could probably find the answer to my questions is I were dig through the last 2000 post's, But What kind of exhaust system with give the most amount of performance advantage without having to do something wild like having to move the steering column over or other radical modifications??? I thank anyone that will take the time to help me out respond.... Right know everything is stock.... In a perfect world The L69 would give me about what 190 HP?? What I would like to see is about 275HP or better. I don't know if I'm being reasonable but I think a good start with headers and cat's maybe heads and a cam later.... Maybe just a whole new engine ... I don't know

Thanks again for the help...

start with slp or edelbrock headers a good high flow cat (catco or random tech)and any cat back kit will help. you have a long way to go to meet your goal of 275hp id swap in a 350 or 383

OK... My Next Question is... Is the stock L69 manifold and Y pipe combo enough to let the engine breathe with say a set of new World heads and maybe a cam and intake upgrade?? I pretty sure that the HO exhaust has 3" y pipes. I don't want to go spend the $300 to 500 for the headers if I don't have to ( that money can go in many other places ) thanks

Hedman Hedders makes a package for about $330 that includes a y-pipe for single cat, the pipes are 1-5/8". I was thinking about getting them for my '84 Z. I'm not sure how the install is or how it sounds but it looks like a good deal. Jeg's and Summit carry it.

i sorta have that package...except i bought the headers without AIR...anyway just finished putting the headers in today....install really sucked for me, might not for you...my dad and I ripped out all of the smog stuff while we were at it...i think you might have to to get the headers in anyway...as far as install on the headmans...passenger side is easy as pie, driver side the instructions say to lift the engine, i said screw it and after about 5 minutes of finagling i got it in
