best headers????

Im in the market for new headers. Now I have triied the SEARCH key and it turned up one result about a t-shirt.

What is the best set of headers I can get for my 350? I want them to be jet hot coated inside and out with 1 3/4" primarys, I believe thats the size your supposed to use on a small block 350.
also I dont need any air provisions.

Prices and location could help out to, thanx.

This question would be best asked on the Exhaust board...

Check the exhaust boards, this gets asked all the time.

Basically it varies depending on your engine, mods, and price range.

Hedman shorties are the best hedder for your dollar....

If money is not an object, look towards SLP and hooker long tubes.

Hedman Ellites are one of the best deals for our cars, no smog provisions, ceramic coated, huge flanges and thick gauge tubing for 259.99. They are 1 5/8" tho, however 1 5/8" is by no means too small for your average or modified 350.

Inadequate information.

There are all sorts of 350's out there. Tell us a little more about yours.

Factory? Or, modified?

Induction type?

Intended use? (street, daily-driver, strip-only, weekend warrior driven to track, etc.)

Emissions or ground clearance concerns?

SLP is the only outfit that recommends 1-3/4" primaries for a 350. They are shooting at the TPI/EFI with performance mods crowd using shorty headers. If you don't fit that mold, don't take their recommendation for gospel.

I am an avid 1 5/8" header fan. I have friends running 11's on 1 5/8" primary headers. Too many people think they need 1 3/4" headers to go fast.

my 350 is modified, bored .30 over heads ae done with larger valves induction is TPI w/nos, im not planning and racing at the track im more of a street racer, I just wanna have a little fun with the import crowd. Im located in canada so no need to worry about emmisions I have a standard so longtubes are out of the question. I would like a header that doesnt use the tipical 3 bolt collector, I want the fatory style, my collector from my old headers always hit the frame and fuel lines, I wont have a problem with the fuel lines now that Im going away from carburation.

Any of the shorties out there will give you the ground clearance you have missed. The best bet is to get headers and y-pipe together - they have to be from the same manufacturer, since they all connect different.

If you go with SLP, stick with their recommendation and get 1-3/4" primaries. They sell them with or without the A.I.R. tubes, sounds like you can go without. The Hooker Super Comp shorties are nice pieces, 1-5/8" primaries, but have the A.I.R. tubes - you could cut them off and braze the holes shut if you wanted. The Hooker y-pipe is an excellent piece. Edelbrock TES are 1-5/8" primaries come with A.I.R. (same story as Hookers), y-pipe. Hedmans w/o A.I.R. don't have the O2 sensor fitting, you'd have to add that, and their y-pipe doesn't win any awards.

I wouldn't call your application "highly modified", so 1-5/8" primaries will be fine (unless you go SLP). Since you're going TPI, you need the O2 sensor fitting.

I also do not advocate street racing (even though you didn't ask). Very dangerous, uncontrolled, gives us all a bad name. Street performance? Fine. Street racing? One word - Don't.

For a stock or mildly modded 350, 1 5/8" primaries will work great. I have a friend who insists that his 1 3/4" headers on his stock LG4 make more power than the 1 5/8" ones would, but it probably makes less power and less torque. The edelbrock pieces are nice, I know two people that run them and they are very satisfied. They don't come ceramic coated though. hope this helps.

I have Edelbrocks on mine. Not too bad to install and will give a very noticeable low end improvement.
