Hooker Cat-Back question

I have decided to go with the hooker cat-back instead of the flowmaster one. I have already purchased a 16.5 inch slip fit catco converter but i found out that the hooker system has a 4 bolt flange that hooks to the cat. Should i return the cat to summit and get the 85-90 direct fit replacement (3 inch, 4 bolt flange to intermediate pipe) or could i modify the one i already purchased (was going to buy an american thunder exhaust).
THANK YOU for the help

I also ran into the same problem, so what I did was I cut that end of the pipe off and then welded a 3 inch pipe from my cat to where i cut. Its pretty simple.
