How to Tighten Up a Muffler ??

Pretty basic question, huh ? I just failed inspection because the muffler is loose on the intermediate pipe, and you can rotate the muffler on the intermediate pipe, even though the clamp is nice and tight. It looks like the muffler opening is a little too big for the pipe going into it. Is there some sort of shim I can put in there ?? Should I go to an exhaust shop and have them expand the pipe slightly ? Tighten the heck out of the clamp and hope it doesn't break the muffler ?

Thanks

If I weld it on, can I get it off later without ruining the I pipe ?

You could cut a slit in the inlet of the muffler. That would give you a live more of a crimp in the pipe. If your worried about not gettin the muffler off after its welded then get a flange for the I pipe and one for the muffler. Have them welded on...then you can bolt and un-bolt the muffler any time. That the way the hooker cat-back came for my brother.
