Power Loss???

ok, I just recently had my new exhaust put on, hooker cat-back with a straight pipe and new y pipe (if it matters) and I knoticed a slight loss in power, well maybe slightly large. There was a AIR or some emmissions pipe going into the side of the cat before it was deleted, will that in anyway effect my loss of power, i'm sorry I dont know much about exhaust systems. Thanks!

I don't think deleting your cat/AIR caused your power loss, this is done all the time without trouble. One thing that comes to mind though is that sometimes after installing a freer flowing exhaust, your fuel mixture goes lean because of the extra flow. Assuming you have fuel injection, I'd say you might need to increase your fuel pressure to compensate.
Hope this helps.

The tpi apfr wont work on the tbi. In the how to section of this board it will tell u how to turn your existing one into an adjustable one.

Give it a few days for your computer to learn though.

thanks for the idea, yah its been like this for a few weeks now though, I'm not sure what went wrong. I had alot of stuff needing replaced and I could not get upto speed at all cause my tranny mount was gone and the shifer would come up and slam into the car so I drove real easy til it all got fixed, with fresh mounts, exhaust, suspension it feels like a V6, cant even chirp 2nd gear when before I could hit 3rd easy. I dont understand it at all

I am not sure why you lost power, unless one of you plugs where mabey damaged during installation. A free flowing exaust like that should not create a power loss, you should get a least a minimal power gain if anything.

i think i might no

how does the car idle and start now that you did the up grade.
one time a while back me and my friend thought that we would take the stock muffler off his toyota pick up truck and put one of the realy long i think 17 inch cheap thrush mufflers on it and after we got it installed the truck ran liek total srap and would idle for car eather and teh truck was feul injected also but as soon as we put the normal muffler back on it ran like a champ again.
i was under the asumpyion that it didnt have enough back pressure maybe u are seeing something simular in your car.

yah it does have a little problem at idle but nothing big. once in a great while it will stall but not usualy. I just remembered I had just installed a new fuel pump, is there a calibration or something for that? Or maybe dirty fuel injectors??

Have you replaced your fuel filter lately? A semi-plugged filter could cause a pressure drop that would cost you power.

A fuel filter shouldn't cost you that much. I don't remember how much off the top of my head - $10? I usually use Fram, AC Delco, or NAPA filters.
