question about headers...

well i will be getting an american thunder 3" catback here in the coming months. the mod after that will be headers.

after a discussion of whether i need to keep AIR or not, i have not decided whether to ditch the AIR system, or keep it.

so i have decided that the best AIR headers are the Edelbrock TES Headers (part #-6872). Agree?

now i need to decide what the best headers are for my application w/o AIR fittings.

I want them to be ceramic coated...but is ceramic coating better from the manufactor that the headers are made at, or should i buy painted headers and send them to Jet-hot?

This is for a 1988 TA, 305 TPI, i currently have the mods in my sig, but u can see my future mods, with this in mind...i have 3 questions...

1) Are the edelbrock TES headers the best for AIR equipped headers?

2)what ceramic coating is better? Factory or Jet-Hot?

3)What are the best headers for my money w/o AIR fittings for my application?

1) Based on comments I've heard here, their specs, and pictures, I'd say "No". Hooker 2055's are better. But, "best" is a relative term, at best.

2) Jet Hot is the grand daddy of them all. Again, "best" needs to be defined. Getting them coated from the manufacturer will likely cost less, but it probably won't be done by Jet Hot; and if you believe what you read, if it isn't Jet Hot, it isn't Jet Hot coating quality. You're going to have to decide which is more important to you: price, or the name.

3) The "for my money" part is where you leave objectivity and step into subjectivity. Which is more important to you: Saving money? Performance? Ease of installation? Looks? Being able to say you have headers? I think the Hooker 2460's are great pieces, but you'll have to have a y-pipe fabricated for them - ain't going to be cheap, especially if you insist on mandrel bends, and even more so if you want the y-pipe coated.

Only you can take all the factors and decide which is the best route for you.

well my best route for cheap headers with no air is the headmans. there 1 5/8.. and they make a y pipe for them.. Im gunna get the headers coated along with maybe the y pipe if the price is good and the funds are there. I think there a great header. im deff. gunna get stage 8 locking header bolts and coper gaskets cause i dont want anything bustin out or breakin loose. also these are gunna go on a new set of heads.. so i have to watch my budget a lot and try not to go over it by much especialy cause im in college and i need all the money i can get my hands on. Im going best bang for the buck... i have found great deals on quality stuff and i plan on searching for more around town and on line. good luck with your car and remember have fun with it man.

Well, I want ease of installation, w/o spending a small fortune, i do want some performance in there, afterall thats what headers are for primarily IMO. I would like to get a set of headers that comes with a y-pipe, or a y-pipe that is available to buy for that particular set of headers.

As far as Jet-Hot, I didnt know if they were the best coating or not, but I assumed that they were cuz they coat inside and outside, warranty is lifetime, and they have an awesome reputation. I do think they are a bit pricey, but I want quality, and I have to be willing to pay for it, besides, It will be better in the long run.

Also, I am looking to spend about $500 total for headers coated with Jet-Hot, I dont know if this will get me very far or not, but arent uncoated headers pretty cheap? I will be installing them myself cuz 1)im not payin out my *** to have some midas guy do it, and 2)i would like to do as much work myself on my car as possible. I will need to keep a place for my oxygen sensor, but as far as the AIR lines, ive decided to ditch them and just run a hose from the pump to the cat.

I just ordered a set of Hooker 2055 direct from Jet Hot for $498 total. They should be on my door step next wed.

After considering all of the cost factors and quality, this was my choice.

Good Luck on your decision!
