Question about headers and exhaust(suprise huh?)

Okay I was wondering, will headers give me any noticeable gains as far as power goes? I have always heard that a general rule is that they add 10% of the engine's HP, but I dunno if thats true. I would like to get headers without A.I.R. because they dont do emissions tests in the part of the state I live in. Also, could guys recomment a good, inexpensive exhaust system? I want one that is deep and somewhat loud, but no obnoxiously loud. Thanks for the advice.

Headers definately give you HP, I'm not sure of the 10% thing though. But there's a reason why most people make headers there first major mod. As far as an exhaust system goes, get the Hooker cat-back, it's awesome. There are sound clips of it in a post not too long ago.

ok since i got confused by the post before the last, what kind of power gains come from a catback exhaust? anything significant? or just noise...im curiose cause i got a paycheck coming it two weeks that i can play with =) so i was gonna do open element, cheap catback (pacesetter) and a cutoff. then weld the crap together. hope i have enough money...
