where does that flowmaster sound come from?
i am wondering if the flowmaster sound comes from the i-pipe, muffler, or the tips? i mean i know that the tone and everything is made by the muffler but iv been told how much better a flowmaster muffler sounds with a 3 inch i pipe and 3 inch tips but i just cant figure out why that would make a difference? as soon as my flowmaster 80 series muffler arrives i will have it installed but i still have the stock i pipe and tail pipes with the exception of 3 inch angle cut tips. i have flowtech headers and y pipe and a strait pipe in place of the cat. can anybody tell me how much different it will sound than a cat-back system? also if i got a flowmaster muffler right now that fits the stock pipes, is it possible to have a muffler shop fab me up a 2.5 inch i pipe later on and just weld it strait to the muffler since the opening is 2.5 also? i dont have a high hp engine so 2.5 should work, could anybody tell me how much this would probably cost? sorry for all the questions but i want to be informed when i do this. thanks alot

The Flowmaster sound comes from the muffler. Bigger pipes and tips just make it better, if you have power that is. (always gotta match everything with cars

how much of a difference does the i pipe make? if i put a 3 inch i pipe or even a 2.5 on there i know ill gain a few hp, dosnt seem worth it to me to spend that much on a few hp that i probably wont be able to feel. and i dotn know how much better it will make it sound but im guessing not a whole lot.
A friend of mine had an 80 series muffler installed in his 87 stock rs. It is a 305 with the 700r4. The rest of the exhaust is stock also. He got a "nicer" sound than what he originally had so he was happy with it. Then he heard my car and he was blown away.
He could not believe the difference between his car and mine. I have a mandrel bent 3 inch I pipe with my 80 series. Mine has a really deap throaty sound . I do have to admit, his sounds nowhere near as nice as mine. My engine is stock also (305).
The best way to find prices is to talk to a local muffler shop and see what they are willing to do for you. Or you could surf the net for prices. Good luck.

hmm, it could be that it wasnt broken in yet. the 80 series takes a little while to get broken in and then it gets alot louder, from what iv read on here. but i called midus today and they said they would charge 50 bucks to make me a 3 inch i-pipe and then they would install all my stuff but they would have to look at it first. i still have to talk to a guy i know that owns a muffler shop so im hoping he will be a little cheaper and i will probably get a 3 inch i pipe just incase i want to add on to my engine later
No "breaking in" for my friends exhaust. He has had it in his car for about 5 years. I've had the exhaust in my car for about a month now. No change in tone or loudness, which is fine with me.

They do change over time, alot don't notice it though. But as said, a complete 3" exhaust system will make a much better sound than stock exhaust with just a muffler.
