Need help finding right muffler
To make a short story long, The car had sat for quite a while (4+ years) before I rescued it from the crusher. First my CAT converter was plugged, and no one carried a stock replacement, so I ended up having a high flow modified to fit. They had to weld on two four bolt flanges to it.
Well, a month later and my muffler started rattling like sh*t, and exhaust was blowing out any seam in the muffler it could find. Now it's plugged. I can't find one like the old one anywhere. It has an offset in/out, 2-1/2 inch inlet and a 2 1/4 inch outlet. Yes, single in and single out, with one tailpipe on the driver's side.
Every parts store seems to list a single inlet with two outlet type of muffler (2 Tailpipes). They however, do not list a H.O. version Z28 on thier computer at all. Did the H.O. cars have 2 tailpipes to begin with, or what?
-Or, should I get a Catback system- I prefer one to fit the 4 bolt flange on the CAT.
I know a few people on this board have L69's - what did yours have??
BTW...I'm still running the stock manifolds a Y-pipe for the time being.

check out flowmaster.com. They make everything. you cant order from them but you can get it through summitracing.com or jegs.com. you can get a cat-back bolt up exhaust or jus the muffler. flowmaster also sells the exhaust in single or dual outlets. The car will sound absolutely wonderful when the flowmaster is on it.

Yeah, Flowmaster is a decent brand, but I really wanted to know what came with the car in the first place. I just got done spending 190 bucks to find a CAT converter that would fit. I did however, solve the mystery myself finally.
My cars 8th VIN digit is "7". No, not "G" or "H" or even "S". Needless to say, this info throws all the parts stores into a fit.
I ended up looking through a Maremont exhaust catalog, and lo and behold, I found a layout for a VIN 7 exhaust. And beleive it or not, it's the same exhaust as a TBI 305!!
So for the few of us that have the H.O. versions, you may find this info helpful one day, because finding the right parts for these cars can be a real PITA.
OH, BTW, I found out that I had a rigged up replacement on the car. It's a single in, duel outlet, so I had to buy tailpipes and hangers too!
