remove a.i.r cheaper???

i was looking on getting some SLP headers, from what ive read they are the way to go. here in kansas don't have any emissions so should i just remove the a.i.r/smog components and save a hundred bucks? any other headers you would suggest, im thinkin about having the cat removed also cause its been rattling and id rather replace it with straight pipe.

If I were you, I'd remove the a.i.r injection crap. just take out the tubes and hoses and the diverter valve (it unbolts from the air pump and cleans up the engine bay too) you can leave the air pump on because it doesnt take hardly any hp to turn and by leaving it there you wont have to re-route a different size belt or get a delete pulley. i see no point is spending an extra 100 bucks on headers with the air tubes because you dont need it, especially since you dont have any emissions laws. you will feel a difference when you cut off the cat because its such a restriction. hope this helped. --matt

I second what Matt said. I live in Alabama and we don;t have any emmissions either. I'm doing the same thing you are doing and you can remove the smog pump without having to buy any pullies. You need a slightly larger belt and all you have to do is re-route the belt. Somewhere around here I have the belt size and a diagram of the routing if you need it. --Cory

sounds like HITHERE'll just remove the smog stuff and save HITHERE little cash, emissions are no where in our near future so not big deal. HITHERE was also wonding about HITHERE cut out, are the electical or mechanical butterfly valves any good? HITHERE want to be able to open and close it without having bad leaks, any specific brands you would point me towards?

Wait....I have no emissions up here either...and I'm putting headers on without AIR fittings.....why would I still need a belt to go on the pump? Cant I just take that off and leave it off?

yea, you can take it off if you have no emissions. the only reason to keep it on is to heat up the cat. its good for us V-belt people cause we can just take it off, and put it back on for inspection, and then off again. if the cat i get has a AIR tube, ill leave it on for inspection, but have it off for the next 2 years. seems like the best idea.

Yea, since I moved to PA, I'm in an area that doesnt do emmissions testing. I think the majority of the state doesnt except for the big cities like Philly and Pittsburg. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure that by taking off the belt and leaving it off, and not connecting the air tubes and still leaving the pump on, i'm not hurting anything. :lala: :lala:
