Regular or Shorty headers??

What are teh differences besides the size of shorties and regular headers? Do shorties give more horsepower/torque or something since they are more expensive than regular headers? What would you guys suggest for my car, Im about to get a hooker cat-back and a straight pipe cat, sorta like a gutted cat but it has a pipe running through it, so its like you have no cat. What do you guys suggest?

First question: Do you have to go through emissions testing or inspection? If so, then shorties are your only reasonable (and technically legal) choice. Getting a y-pipe to the cat with long tubes is typically a custom (read - "expensive") job, although people have talked about a Mufflex piece that is supposed to work.

Theoretically, the long tube type will produce more power if properly chosen because the tubes are "tuned" to the exhaust pulses, helping pull more burnt gasses out of the combustion chamber. But, shorties will make a dramatic improvement in flow over stock manifolds, and are typically CARB-certified.

Also, most long tubes won't fit cars that have transmissions other than TH350s or 700R4s.
