Does the factory dual exaust still only have one muffler, or does it have 2.

One muffler.

Each manifold has a pipe going to a cat, both cats located on passenger side. Then, a y-pipe from cats to a single intermediate pipe over the axle to a single muffler.

When the 82 F body was first introduced in Oct. 1981 it had two mufflers that ran in series tranversely mounted behind the rear axle. However it was split after the converter & had two skinny 1.75" pipes. All subsequent third gens have the single muffs with single or dual outlets.

I keep forgetting about that.

One other thing: Most don't have those dual cats. However, most do have two exhaust pipes as seen from the rear, but both come out of one muffler.

just from looking at that picture you can really get an idea of how crappy the stock exhaust flow really is.
