Pinched AIR tube going to cat...is it a problem??
Quick Q here:
I was under the car on Monday and found the AIR injection (?) pipe that goes to the cat was pinched near the passenger subframe. Is this a problem? Could it damage my cat or hurt anything? I figure I'll just cut out the pinched part and "splice" in a new piece but if it's not a big deal I won't be in a hurry.
Thanks all.
Ed

dont worry. other then teh A.I.R. pump wasting some power from the restriction you should be ok for the time being. Do get it fixed, though. makes passing emmisions alot easier.

Thanks all. I presently don't have emissions but eventually everyone will so I'll fix it this summer, sometime after my to do list gets done.

I have "heard" that lowered backpressure will interfere with the operation of the factory LO3 EGR valve, because it is a "positive pressure" type. Replacing the EGR valve with an aftermarket type will take care of the issue.

EB and Ragged-out (Ragged out especially):
Is it possible that by pinching off the air going into the cat that the air pump puts more air into the exhaust manifold, causing the O2 sensor to yield false results?
I guess this would rely on the construction of the divider valve-body for the air. As I remember, a tube comes out of the air pump and into a "divider" for lack of a better term, that directs air to the exhaust manifold(s) and/or the cat. I was thinking that if one of those three tubes got pinched, it would cause more air to go into the other two? I'm not sure about that.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Any info is appreciated-

The car "runs fine" and I don't have any codes, so I don't know what the sensor is seeing. I haven't really taken a closer look at it since I just noticed it. I still have to figure out how all that crap supposedly works.

I have'nt got a chance to check the codes yet but it seems like the car runs a little cooler now and at idle the exhaust smells like it is running rich.
