I was going to go with the Hooker Super Comps (2055s) but now I can get a set of the SLPs for cheaper, and there the best header out there. Im just wondering if they would be allright for a 305 TPI. Has anyone used the SLPs with a 305 TPI. Also will there be any clearance problems with the SLP Y Pipe with Hotchkis SFCs. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't get them. Too big in my opinion, besides I dont agree with the SLP's being the best. I would stick with the hookers.

I'd stick with 1 5/8" SLPs for a 305, esp if its TPI.

I have the SLP 1.75 headers on a 305. I do not buy into all the 1.75 is too big for a 305. Untill someone takes a 305 with 1.75 headers and drops back to a 1 5/8 header and proves a gain I will not be convenced. I noticed a nice SOTP gain over the stock manifolds/y pipe. I am very pleased with the SLP headers and I would buy them if I had to do it all over again.
I would not say that the SLP'a are the best only because I have not owned ever header offered for a thirdgen. As far as I know SLP is the only header offered in SS. I guess that might be important if you wanted the header to last for a long time. I also sent my SLP's off to Jet Hot for coating. Overkill, yes but I dont like the "rusty header" look.

I posted this about 2 weeks ago. 87 B4Z told me that he saw 3/10th's and 3mph at the track. the only mods at that time were the headers and cat back.

When I'm getting headers for my 305 they will be 1 3/4.

You will definitely see a gain seeing how crappy the stock manifolds are, but that kinda makes you wonder what he would have seen with 1 5/8 headers. Thats not all that really big of a gain considering he did the entire exhaust at the same time(headers and catback).

I gained 4/10th at the track from after installing SLP 1 5/8" headers. There was an article in CHP awhile back and they did some dyno testing on a 350 and found that the 1 5/8" worked better the 1 3/4" on the 350. I'm not sure what the difference would between the 2 would be on a 305.

no, at the time i had a flowmaster cat back and ran a 15.5@87mph, added the SLP 1 3/4 headers and y-pipe and got a 15.2@90.

ok, well I misunderstood you, sorry. Either way you go, any header will be better than the stock manifolds, but I believe the 1 5/8 are better suited for any engine making less than 400 hp, 350 or 305.

I'm running SLP 1-3/4 headers and exhaust on a stock LB9. I won't deny that it would make a bit more power with the smaller primaries. I'm sure it would. Did I lose anything? Not that I can tell. Gain? Who knows, never ran it before the headers and exhaust. Even if they are overkill, hey, I've got plans. If the price is right...

Sorry, I don't have the magazine anymore. It's been almost 2 years, I think, since the article came out. Sorry.

I'm sure I did, but we all know how reliable the butt dyno is. Could be just cause it looked and sounded so much better. I wish I had run the car before the exhaust work so I'd have a good comparison. Should have G-teched it beforehand at least.
