Question about installing catback

I plan on putting a Hooker catback or a Flowmaster American thunder on my 86 LG4 camaro, haven't decided which system yet, but that's not my question...feel free to post your opinion though

My question:
I put the Heddman hedders and 82-92 camaro/firebird y-pipe on the car. I thought the ypipe was 3" but now that I've looked at it, it looks more like 2-1/2". Anyway, am I going to have a problem if I buy a 2.5" In/Out cat and try to bolt up the 3" I-pipe to it? If this is a problem, how do I remedy it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

you'll just need a 3" to 2 1/2" reducer to run from the I pipe to cat. Not sure if they go from 1/4 or 1/2" at a time.

Do you think it would be more beneficial to put the reducer between the cat and the y-pipe and get a 3" cat?

wait i'm kind of confused. You say that the ypipe is 2.5" and the cat is also 2.5" so you shouldn't need any reducer, it should just bolt up. Correct me if i'm missing something

No, I don't have the cat yet, so I want to know if I should get a 2.5 inch cat and put a reducer between that and the 3" I-pipe or get a 3" cat and put a reducer between that and the 2.5" y-pipe.

Nevermind...I decided to actually read the instructions. They say "If using a 3" inlet catalytic converter, a reducer is included with the y-pipe." Thanks for the help anyway.
