SLP Ypipe

I'm wanting to upgrade my exhaust but, I'm going to keep the exhaust manifolds. A guy I work with was saying that SLPs y-pipe for manifolds would be alot better than the stock one. I'm just curious what you guys think of it. Also what else can I do. I have a magnaflow muffler on already. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
This is on my 84 firebird with the lg4 305.
Thanks

It will be better than the stock y pipe for sure, but with the stocK manifolds on you will still be chocking your motor. Is there a reason for not getting headers?

I like the performance of headers but, I don't like the hassle they cause. I would like to put them on my car but, with it being a daily driver I don't think they would be worth the time and trouble they are.

I used to think the same way. But with the improved headers, gaskets, fasteners, and ceramic coating that are available now, headers can be much more trouble free. Just not as cheap.

My SLP install is goin great, and they do a great job of designing headers nowadays so all the stock stuff you want to keep will fit. I really don't think there's much use do doing all the work of swapping out the Y-pipes if you keep the same restrictive manifolds on there. Plus, spark plug changes will be a breeze.

go for the headers. edelbrocks makes a good set that goes in fairly easy. but there are other more popular brands like SLP or Hooker. my car's also a daily driver and i haven't had any problems with burnt wires or loose bolts or anythin like that. only thing i recommend is gettin 'em ceramic coated. it's not that expensive (i was quoted 200 for mine) and am sure well worth it. uncoated header tubes get pretty damn hot.

i doubt you'll feel any improvement in performance with better flowing y pipe and stock manifolds. you will with headers.

I have the SLP Y-Pipe connected to the stock exhaust manifolds and they perform great. I have it connected to a Car-Sound high flow Cat going into a Flowmaster Crossflow muffler. I recently failed the smog test because the technician said the engine (LO3 5 spd) didn't have enough back pressure!

I bought the SLP Y-Pipe because of the same reasons you have and I have never regretted it. Even though the stock exhaust manifolds are restrictive, they are so short that even with just the y-pipe the exhaust flows out a lot smoother. I think it's a great compromise.

So you really do think that they help? I have heard it both ways. This guy I work with said that it would help but, several people on here don't think so. Also, GKK, what size is the rest of your exhaust?
