Remove Muffler Heat Shield?

My muffler Heat-shield rings...not rattles but rings as i drive and it makes my car sound like ****. i was thinking woul dit be alright to remove it considering the gastank is right behind it? or should i remove it beat the **** out of it, maybe coat it with some of that ruberized undercoating then put it back???

I wouldn't remove it, there's a reason for it being there. If not for the heat, it also tends to help keep fuel leaks off your exhaust - I know this from experience. I don't think I'd really beat on it, unless I was very angry with it.
Are all the attaching screws still there? Just a thought...I think you might be on the right track with undercoating, make it heavier and dampen the vibration.
And I think now I know why I have a rattle in the back of my car since installing my Hooker catback right after reinstalling my fuel tank. Thanks.

Funny, but I think mine has started to quiet down in the last couple of days, but if it doesn't go away, at least I know where I'll look next. Thanks, man
