Stupid (&^#$(*^%%# Mufflex Y-pipe!

I got the 406 freshen up and put back in the car, have new coated Hooker Super Comps. Went to install the Mufflex y-pipe into their 4" exhaust, doesn;t even come close to fitting.

The flanges on the headers are a good inch higher than the y-pipe can physically go beacuse of the way it is made.

Anyone else have stories to share about this one?

could be because the products arent made by the same company? I had bought summit headers and a hedman y-pipe and they dont match.

don't even get me started on that thing

I fought with that piece of poo for over 3 hours yesterday, and I'm still not happy with the way it fits. I can't really blame mufflex for that, though, since I have a T56, and the crossmember is therefore in a different location than the y-pipe was designed for. It just takes a LOT of twisting and turning of the different sections, to get it to line up properly... The thing that helped me was to finally realize that the actual Y section must be positioned such that the pipe with the downward (or upward, depending on how you're looking at it,) angle should be on the passenger's side, pointing down. Then it's a matter of using the other pieces to get the lateral spacing correct so that everything can slip together.

I've got 2 or 3 spots where the y-pipe is right against the crossmember. It's going to vibrate like crazy, but hopefully a muffler shop will be able to tweak it a bit.

Have fun,
