Cat-back recomendations

305 TBI---very, very stock--w/ no plans to do anything but very minir tweaks. Conidering a low price and a nice louder then stock sound, whats a good cat-back and what size sould I get?

(I have 2.5" at the moment)

low price you say? get the hooker cat back... i just ordered it!!
it was 207.99 from jegs. I looked at summit 2 days ago and saw they had it, but then i looked yesterday, and it said no known part number... wierd? oh well I orderd the catco cat from summit.. so now its a race to see which company can get it out here faster.... summit or jegs!!! I cant wait to get it! i hope by tues or weds...

p/n or hooker is 16822... for summit add hok, for jegs its 580 prefix i belive.

another recommendation for the hooker catback right here. Happier every day with it.

now what size should I get? I don't want to lose any power by going to big--or is my thinking wrong?

(I am just thinking of a Car Craft dyno test where they did tests on the removal of hte cat--car lost a little bit without it)

The cat is 2.5" can they adapt a 2.75 or 3" to it?
At the moment I'd rather leave it on

well, for the price i got a new hi flow catco universal fit 3inch in and out cat for 54.99 shipped... you cant beat that man... Im sure your cat is clogged up right now and it wouldnt hurt to get a new one... hi flow's have shown to flow as well as a gutted or strait pipe. you might lose 1-2hp maybe.... 3in cat back is what most of them are. Back pressure is bad... a 3 in exhaust is great and the hooker system sounds awesome. a 4in exhust would be overkill since you dont need anything that big..

does it matter to you if you have tips coming out each side or would a single tailpipe be ok? for a stock 305 tbi, a 2.5" catback would flow plenty well, and you wouldnt lose any power on the low end. the only reason to get a 3" catback would be if you had future plans, but you already specified that you didnt.

Well I have the factory twin pipes exiting on both sides of the muffler now. Gotta keep 2 for sure--both on the same side would be kinda neat.

SLP had exhuast like that I think.

Banks has the two pipes on one side>the sound is amazing and the system is all stainless steel.Plus,it is just a bit more $$ than the lower grade aluminized stuff that hooker or some of the other MFGS use...Definately the one to get!

i got a catco cat with air tube ... 3in in and out... i got the universal cat per Mark A Shields advice on the exhaust set up... the banks system is just as good as slp's and NO ONE has it.. its very very DL and make sure you get a sound clip cause i never heard one..

the $200 hooker cat-back will need some minor cutting and welding one to hook to the cat.

it does take some modification to get the Hooker cat back on.with cutting, relocating hanger and a bit of minor welding i'm told. That was the other reason I went with banks..Nothing needed to be done.Just bolt on and get on down the road

actually , they do sell a direct bolt on, I just opted for the cheaper one that needed a little touch to get it on

Hell, it could be on my door right now!! Im going home and taking off my old exhaust system.. then ride around with it open! oo yea!
