hey guys, I have edelbrock header, gutted cat, 3in I pipe and a flowmaster muffler with 2 1/2in tips. My buddy has a firebird with a 305 tbi and edelbrock headers and right from the y-pipe he has 2 1/2in pipe rigth to the muffler and liek 3 inch or 3.5in tips on his stock tailpipes. now his is louder and sounds liek it has more ***** then mine. whats the deal there?? I have a bigger 3in pipe here. Is is mayeb cause he has no cat at all and mines gutted and causeing turbulence? thanks guys

ditch the 2 1/2" tips + cat and get the 3" tips. they're size seems to make the sound louder and deeper.

Tips make a HUGE difference, this was illustrated in my father in laws mustang. He had 3" flowmaster exhaust with 3" tips. (I think) but anyway, he got a cervini rear bumper on that has these square chrome tips, but the inlet into the tip is 2.5", so it just corked the flow and sound majorly, it was very noticable. he now found tips that fit the opening and have the 3" piping and is much happier.
