Header Bolts Wont Work!!

Maybe I'm an idiot and maybe my brain is FRIED from days of working on this header install.....

I bought header bolts and they won't line up properly. On the passenger side, the right side (of each primary) bolts will go in, but the left side (of each primary) hit the actual primary and won't go in.

I did exchange the ones in the pic for some Mr Gasket header bolts... same thing.

ANY ideas? I'm about to roll the car off a cliff....

Loosen all the bolts and pull the flange away from the head. Start that bolt first.

...and, you may have to ding the primary in a little with a ball peen.

Thats what we ended up doing, and it worked. Thank G0D.

My only problem now is the bolt hole that is used on headers (the one on the far left side of the passenger bank) and not used with the manifolds is clogged. I can only get a bolt in 1/4 of the way. FOR NOW, we'll just use washers to hold it tight.

Somebody warned about that in a post within the last couple of weeks. Run a tap in before you start the install, they said. Too bad you missed that (might be able to do it still, though).

Glad you got them mounted up.

I may still remove it and run a tap through it, although, with the space limitations I'm not sure how easily that'll be able to actually be done.

Actually, just the passenger side is bolted up. While I was at it, I replaced the motor mounts... its a good thing I did, since the mounts were ORIGINAL 1987. I'm having trouble getting the driver's side one mounted back in. Until I get it mounted, the engine is TOO high to get the header on that side on.

Oh well, there's been so many days now, what's another....
